Lateralization of the alveolar nerve can be adopted in complex cases where vertical bone height is insufficient in the posterior sector of the mandible. It consists of the temporary displacement of the alveolar nerve to allow the placement of implants of adequate length in basal bone, being a robust alternative to the use of short implants or block grafts.
